Abdou Sarr was born and raised in Dakar, Senegal, and learned how to dance many dances in sandy streets and beaches, from acclaimed examples, such as his mother Ami Faye. In his twenties, he traveled to the US with hip hop group, Gokbi-System. They toured all over North America, on stage at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, Joe's Pub in NYC, and settled here in Western Massachusetts, where he shares stages with diverse musicians. Currently Abdou teaches as an Artist in Residence at many schools across the Northeast and with the Senegal America Project. His way of teaching is direct and endearing. His class is tailored to participants, who leave feeling the natural high of African dance, and a true connection with the continent.
