Black Lives Matter
George Floyd's life mattered. The lives of Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, Philando Castile mattered. The lives of the thousands of Black men, women and children whose names never hit mainstream media, unconscionably too many to name here, mattered.
This is a moment of widespread reckoning to the centuries of brutality that Black men, women and children have known their entire lives. Anti-Black racism is and always has been systemically, deeply embedded in our nation’s social fabric.
We are appalled at the continued abuses of power we are witnessing by police forces all around our nation. We stand with Black Lives Matter and join the chorus of enough is enough. We stand together with those who say we can—we must—do better.
Musica Franklin pledges to continue educating ourselves about White privilege, listening to the voices of those who experience racism every day, and working beside them until they are safe to walk the streets, drive their cars, and go to school.
We hope that unified voices will finally lead to meaningful change and reparations at a national level. As an organization, we are redoubling our efforts to bring social justice to the foreground of our programs.
